Traverse Systems

Building Interface

The interface between the building and the traverse is an important factor for the final performance of the natural frequency of the traverse. Two factors are very important:
-  The stiffness of the building where the traverse is connected to the building.
-  The length of the free span of the main moving beam.

Model analysis of a building

Traverse system at BMW Ascheim, Germany. X-Y-Z=9.7 x 7.5 x 2.7m. Max wind speed: 288 km/h. Natural frequency: 12 hz.
The stability of the traverse system is based on a high natural frequency of the traverse as well as a stiff support from the building. To achieve necessary support stiffness the building usually has to be reinforced.

Reinforced building at BMW, Munich.
