Traverse Systems

BMW Full Scale Traverse

The traverse system was installed at BMW, München, Germany in 2009.

Type of traverse: 2YXZ.
Installed with up to 4 rotational units.

The Z-arm of the Full Scale Traverse can be positioned close to the floor enabling the rotation unit and probe to measure under the car.

Rotation Unit
The PanRoll 170 is mounted at the bottom of the Z-arm by a flange. The unit creates a 2D rotational motion: around a vertical axis (Pan), and around a horizontal axis (Roll). The Unit is due to high stiffness and accuracy able to support an arm with measurement equipment in the wind flow.
All cables for control and measurement are guided internally. The Rot arm is also mounted on the Roll Unit with a flange.

At the end of the roll arm is the RollTilt 30 mounted. This is a 2D mini servo actuator, able to manipulate a probe's yaw and pitch angle. The cables for control are guided internally in the arm and the RollTilt 30 unit.
